Scholarship Application
The Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) operates businesses in diverse fields such as construction, marine services, aviation, business administration, and logistics and planning. NGC’s mission is to develop wealth in trust for Nunatsiavut Beneficiaries by owning profitable, sustainable businesses. Our vision is to be Inuit-led and to be business leaders in the North.
NGC realizes the importance of education and of providing opportunities to assist beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement (LILCA) in the pursuit of their goals and careers. NGC supports the education goals of Beneficiaries who study in areas connected to our lines of business.
Students and youth are the future of Nunatsiavut and we are pleased to provide these post- secondary scholarships to help them achieve their goals and become our future Leaders, Managers, and Professionals.
Requirements
- Applicants must be a Beneficiary of the LILCA.
- The awards are available to students enrolled in/accepted to a full-time program at an accredited postsecondary institution, according to the business lines listed below.
Applications must be accompanied by:
- A transcript of latest marks completed (high school or post-secondary)
- If in high-school – a copy of the acceptance letter to Post-Secondary Institution
- Two separate signed letters of reference: one from a community leader and one from a teacher, instructor, or supervisor
- The answers for the accompanied four (4) questions

Awarding of the Scholarship
Recipients of the Scholarship will be notified by September 15th, 2024. Recipients of this scholarship will attend an educational institution the same year to which they have applied. Proof of fulltime status and good academic standing, with a grade report, is to be submitted at the end of the semester (end of December) in order to receive the Scholarship cheque. The final decision remains with the scholarship committee.
- NGC scholarships (4 – $1250 awards)
- TSI scholarships (6 in total – $1000 each: One in each high school in Nunatsiavut and one in ULM)
- PiKalujak scholarship for Marine Institute (1 – $5000 annually)
- Bird Heavy Civil scholarship (1- valued at $1500 for a Beneficiary of the LILCA)
A total of four scholarships are available once annually. NGC will award one scholarship in the amount of $1250 in each of the following areas:
Business
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in the field of Business, Business Administration, Science, Law, Engineering or Computer Studies.
Marine
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in the field of Marine Engineering, Marine Navigation or other Marine related careers.
Construction Trades
Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized Apprenticeship program, Skilled Trades, and/or Technology Programs: This includes Full-time certificate or diploma programs and Apprenticeships (i.e. on-the-job training).
Eligible fields of studies: Carpenter, Pipefitter, Electrician, Welder, Plumber, Machinist etc.
Women in Business, Marine Field or Trades
Applicants must be female and enrolled in one of the programs mentioned above.
Final approval is at the discretion of the NGC Scholarship Committee.
Note:
- Once Scholarships are granted, the recipients will be featured in “NGC News”, NGC’s Newsletter, and a notice will be posted on NGC’s social media pages.
- A T4A will be issued in the recipients name at the end of the year.
